In the last decade of the nineteenth century and the first decade of the twentieth, GustavKI imt who was born in Vienna, the mus ic capital of the world .displayed aptly the Austrian nature characteristic in spec i a I art I anguage. I n the ear I y seventeenth , Chen Hongshou , who I i ved in the famous cultural city Hangzhou in ancient China that dominate the whole country with Confucian classics, poured refreshing energy into the spiritless figure paint ing circles in the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty with his distinctive artistic form. It's two and a half century between the ages the two masters lived, but there is marvelous resemblance between their art language.This article intend to compare their works detailedly and make deeply analyses by i nterpret the! r art i st ic characteristic. So people can comprehend their artistic characteristic more clearly and have further more recognize to the distinguish between Chinese painting and western painting in the level of artistic form, and recognize our traditional arts from new view.The text ma i n I y ana I yze the i r art I anguage each other from two parts. One hand , to research the factor forming their art language by analyze the selected themes, background, character, etc. The other hand ,to analyze and compare their works dedicate Iy according to different classification : frame composition, figure moulding .dealing with background image, deal ing with lines.Kl imt's works was ful I of music aroma. Rhythmic I ines, tall and slim figure deformation, ornamental geometrical patterns, imagecombinations out of time and space, by which he mixed and abstract, impressionism and symbolism together. Each of his works is full of mysterious a I legory. Chen's works was full of ancient poetry concept. Lines in his work with sense of move and order, short and staid figure deformation, ornamental patterns and brush stroke, freedom space imagine enriched his artistic expression. The symbol ic themes made his works full of implication.Their vertical-level composition patterns, sense of square in image formation, explicit mass conciousness, the lines' sense of rhythm, the plane effect and ornament design enriched the works' sense of impressionism and symbolism, made the works synthetic .diversiform and particular. The two master a I I had made promi nent contribution to the pure art language pathfinding of figure painting.
