Study On The Complexity Of Modern Ding Ling's Novels

This paper intends to make a research on the modern novels by Ding Ling by means of a new theory of modernity, and to discuss the successful points and weakness of her novels. It predominantly aims to reveal the dilemma that Ding Ling, a Chinese modem intellectual, landed herself in while she created novels. And then it attempts to have a tentative discussion on the complexity of her novel writing. Based on the change of her living surroundings, as well as the social and political background of her time, chapter one mainly tells the profound reason why Ding Ling readjusted her writing for several times, and then analyses the process and complexity of this modern woman writer's psychological development. By analyzing the specific and typical female characters in the writer's novels, chapter two is devoted to express the various types of the complicated dispositions of the females that Ding Ling wrote about in her different writing periods. Then it sums up three features of her heroines.Chapter three, based on the former chapters, depicts the complexity of Ding Ling's writing from three standpoints梩he shifting between subjective experience and objective description, the overlapping of the psychological analysis and the conflict between different incidents, and the vagueness of the descriptions of the ordinary and typical characters in her novels as well.The practical value of the paper lies in its research on Ding Ling's modern novels by means of the theory of modernity. Through exploring the contents and structure of the novels written by her, the paper intends to discuss how Ding Ling dealt with the relationship between the pursuit of the female and the social revolution, as well as her gain and loss when doing this, with a purpose that it may provide a new method to do research on the modem female literature.
