Chinese Lacquer Art Theory

The lacquer painting is a young art type. It has been about forty years since the first Chinese modern lacquer painting appeared. This art type is still in its infancy, requiring the practical establishments and theoretical foundation.This thesis attempts to make some researches in the theoretical field. It is divided into two parts: the lacquer paintings of the ancient time and the lacquer paintings of the modern time. With the collected archeological materials, this thesis gives the facts that the ancient lacquer painting functioned at the decorations of the lacquer wares. That is why the ancient time could be named the age of the attachmnent of lacquer paintings to lacquer wares. Owing to the development of spirtirual life and the 1960's Vietnamese lacquer painting exhibitions in China, the detachment of the lacquer painting from the lacquer ware became necessary.This thesis gives out facts to show the vitality and huge potentiality of Chinese contemporary lacquer painting, and optimisically forsees its promising speculation.
