Chinese Body Parts Words Of Metaphor Research

Modern metaphorlogy opined metaphor, referring to one thing as another, more as a way of thinking than as a linguistic rhetoric phenomenon. This thesis purports to analyze and probe into some of the linguistic phenomena in Chinese under the guide of such theory. This thesis has respectively discussed the metaphoric phenomena in the concepts named by the parts of human body; the space metaphoric phenomena shaped by the words expressing the components of human body and direction; and other metaphoric expression formed by other words describing human body parts. As for the metaphoric phenomena in the conceptual names of the objects, there includes the categories of " personified metaphoric words" and " loaned metaphoric words". "Personified metaphoric words"' is a linguistic phenomenon in which the names of human body components are deployed to name objective things. With respect to the "loaned metaphoric words", they are usually employed in another cognition area to acquire their metaphoric semantics. The two categories of metaphoric words possess different characteristics in form and semantic.Human Body components and the concept of space, the most direct human body experience, are the most fundamental in the cognition system. The word of location formed by the phrase expressing human body components and direction not only expresses the concept of space, it also reflected often in the abstract areas as time, belonging, position and degree, which forms the space metaphor.The words indicating body components can also form other metaphoric phenomena, two of which are: considering human parts as another matter, and the meaning of metaphor is thus shaped by means of mutual reflection of human body cognition area and other areas; The metaphor meaning emerges when the modifying words of the human body components in one cognition area are deployed in another cognition area. Specifically,through the case study, we have analyzed the cognitive and linguistic reasons that lead to the emergence of metaphor, moreover, the contradictions and similarities of the semantics of metaphor together with the reflection of the two cognition areas are expounded.To sum up , the author of this thesis experiments to employ the modern metaphoric theory to analyze some relevant phenomena in Chinese, meanwhile, the writer hopes that the essence of modern metaphorlogy as "Metaphor is a original way of thinking and mean's of cognition" can provide Chinese research with a new train of thought.
