The concepts of subject and individuality, recently, are utterly different in the post-modern theory horizon from their previous counterparts. Depriving of human subject position, abandoning the author, transforming the text, as well as relocating the reader, post-modernists provide "non-individuality" with polygenic demonstration in the philosophy, linguistics, as well as psychology perspective, and make it a self-evident commonplace. It is necessary to make a more detailed research, in such a literary context which conceals "self and "non-individuality",on the basis of the given achievement acquired by the predecessor in order to deepen the scientific research. In this dissertation, I attempt to interpret the genealogy of "non-individuality " by means of combining the history and logic, therefore to rescrutinize the "non-individuality", which is just the thrust of the dissertation.1."Non-individuality " vs. "Individuality"1) The construction of the myth of the subject and the formation of the theory of individualityI don't think they are superfluous remarks to narrate the meaning and the formation of the "individuality ", and have not scrupled to settle "individuality"and "non-individuality"in concrete history context in order to grasp the connotation and the source of "non-individuality". The acknowledgement of the personal character and subjectivity is the sine qua none of "individuality". The emphasis laid on subjectivity is the source of the modernization of West. For post-modernism, what is it called the stable individuality is a myth or meta-narrative, the resultant consequence of the establishment of subject status and the prevalence of the bourgeois individualism in the late 1700s.2) The nascence of the theory of "non- individuality"The nascence of "non-individuality" theory was synchronized with the critique of the modern philosophy to individuality. From 21st on, modern philosophers begin to speculate and problematise the one-sidedness. In the literary field, T. S. Eliot put forward the "non-individuality" theory in order to refute literary argument held by romanticism which over-advocates personal character and self. The theory of "non-individuality" consists of three sections: tradition and individual, escape from personal emotion as well as objective correlative which penetrates and conditions each other.2.The theoretical origin of non-individuality1) The theoretic origin of non-individualityThere is an indispensable cue, albeit unobtrusive, in the interaction of theory of non-individuality and its modem literary counterpart. John Keats' negative capability objective aesthetics, symbolism as well as imagism and so forth all together exert a remarkable influence over the formation of the non-individuality. 2)The literary criticism perspective after non-individuality T. S. Eliot pinpoints literary criticism to literature itself, which is his contribution as a pioneer. The literary production and literary theory in favor of self and individuality efface themselves after the prevalence of non-individuality. Hence literary theory begins to explore the form and discourse structure of text itself. The emphasis laid .on traditional literary theory bounds up with that on author and object world. Nevertheless, Russian Formalism, New criticism and French Structuralism pay attention to form at the extreme.3. The theory of non-individuality in post-modernism horizon In post-modern text, the subject is annulled in the text without the trace of the author. What exists in the text is the revelled language and reader at random. Non-individuality attaches emphasis on language arid expedites the wakening of the literarily noumenal consciousness and nothing exists but only the text. 4. The assess to post-modern critiqueThe critique to post-modern hits home, therefore has positive magnificence to eliminate the metaphysical thinking mode. But it is not practical to extirpate modernity. What we get from post-modernity is that we cannot deify the author and refer to him/her as the only sourc...
