He Qifang, a Chinese writer who was famous for the poetry Prediction and the collection of prose Dream of Painting in 1930s, is quite popular with readers for his unique artistic style. His experience was so typical and similar with those Chinese intellect in his time, which aroused much concern of many researchers. A lot of domestic and foreign researchers have made an exhaustive study of his poems, prose, and theories of literature and art. Relatively speaking, they are more interested in studying his poems therefore they have neglected the prose especially proses written in his latter part of live. Because the form of prose is different from that of poems and He Qifang's writing of prose is instructed by his unique views on literary creation, it is necessary to make an all-around exploration into his prose. In this thesis, He Qixing's creation of prose is divided into two stages, his arrival in Yan'an being the dividing line. An analysis on the content and art of Dream of Painting, Notes of Returning Home, Spark - an Anthology, and Spark- a Sequel Anthology is made to discuss the variation in the early and the late stages of his creation and the reasons of it and draw inspiration for literature from it.The introduction is a brief recall of He Qifang's writing experience.Part one discusses the content of, Dream of Painting, Notes of Returning Home, Spark -an Anthology, and Spark- a Sequel Anthology. In Dream of Painting and Notes of Returning Home, the writer describes an illusory dreams of love and ideal, past and future, as well as the sad feelings of gloomy, loneliness, solitude, hesitation, and depression in the dreams. In Spark - an Anthology, and Spark- a Sequel Anthology, the writer sings praises of Yan'an, exposes the ugliness in the district dominated by KMT, reconsiders the history and traditional culture, ponders over the road of the intellects, and shows self-negation as well as self-repentance.Part two discusses the artistic features of Dream of Painting, Notes of Returning Home, Spark - an Anthology, and Spark- a Sequel Anthology. The first two writings are featured with clear individuality. The writer mainly uses many modern artistic means such as style of monologue, illusion and recollection, hint and symbolization, stream of consciousness and complex sense. The last two are fsatured with a more popular style; the narration is strikingly realistic and narrative; the language is simple, brief, plain and colloquial; the style is warm , clear and manifest.Part three mainly discusses the variation in the early and late stages of He Qifang's creation of prose and the reasons of it: its content stresses on praises of revolution and criticism of the dark reality instead of naive sadness, lonely happiness and distant imagination shown in the early stage. The subjects expands from expressing personal feelings to concerning social reality, from individual dreams to "sparks" in the society. The style changes from the early monologue to the late loud song, from pursuing an imaginary artistic conception to writing the reality, from the mass application of modern means of increasing sense of beauty to the direct expression of simple feelings, and from an intentionally ornate style to a naturally plain style. The process of the changes uncovered the necessity in history while the changes lead to a formation of He Qifang phenomenon. There are three major causes to these changes; He Qifang's prose writing is strongly influenced by the variation in views of prose, difference in soqial time and personal experience, and changes in literaturetrends and policies of literature and art. This thesis tries to reconsider the changes in He's prose creation. He Qifang wrote many remarkable works in his early time and in theory when he, stepping out of the closed individual world, walked into the society and toward Yan'an, he was likely to write some excellent prose. But in fact, there is seldom prose in the late stage which are unique in characteristics. It is mainly due to the limitation of...
