In this article, the Zhiyan Zhai remarks on Hong Lou Meng is discussed in two aspects: its historical value and its literary criticism value. Meanwhile, the significance of Zhiyan Zhai to present literature studies is alsa dicussed.There are three aspects discussed about Zhiyan Zhai remarks historical value. Firstly, the remarks affirm that the author of Hong Lou Meng is Cao Xue-qin, which have been the most trusty proofs. Secondly, Zhiyan Zhai remarks offer us information about Cno's amily, career and the relationship between Cao and the remarks' author. Especially the remarks about Cao's death time have been very important information now. Last, fiction was debased in ancient time which makes not only many outstanding writers and their works unknown, but also our ignorance of the works' producing process. However, Zhiyan Zhai remarks offer us some details of Hong Lou Meng's producing such as the author's earliest design, the fiction's name, the content planed before, etc. The remarks enlighten today's research especially on plots and characters' career in the last 40 chapters.The followed part is about Zhiyan Zhai remarks' fiction criticism value.
