| In the field of teaching Chinese to foreigners, speech rate and the number of new words in a given text is a practical problem that teachers pay attention to. Because it not only concerns the teachers' speech speed in class, but also can provide reference for the production of texts and recording materials.The text tries to disclose the influence that the number of new words and speech rate have on mediate learners. And we had two experiments. The results show that the main effect of speech speed is not significant in the two experiments, the interaction between speech speed and the number of new words is not significant in the two experiments, the main effect of vocabulary is significant in the experiment one. It therefore appears that, for mediate Chinese learners, the speed below 250w/m is acceptable, though we don't know what the upper limit and lower limit of the speed are; 5% new words in one given text are practical; it is improper to present all the texts in the same speed to learners. The last part discusses what the hints the findings give to Chinese teaching and gives some advice for further study. |
