Zhang-Henshui and his light literature works have been given pervasive attention in the first half of 20 century. Lots of citizens read most of Zhang's novels as soon as they were published; researchers unscrambled Zhang and his works in diversified ways. 'Zhang-Henshui phenomenon' formed in Chinese contemporary literature. The formed literary studies about Zhang are reviewed, and more profound connotations of 'Zhang henshui Phenomenon' as a cultural phenomenon in the whole Chinese contemporary literature would be gotten here.Work of literature manifests its historical essence not only in its function of reappearance or appearance, but also in its influence. As a result, reader's reading experience should be studied. Citizens and researchers are readers of Zhang's works. Citizens' worldview, knowledge construction and reading purpose are distinct from those of researchers', and then, their expectation horizon and reading experience are different too.Citizens are the main reader of Zhang's novels. They could hardly re-create a 'second text' as researchers did while text resonate among themselves and the writer. They imagined the fabled content as reality; their aesthetic horizon formed, developed and affected their activitiestowards text. Zhang grasped their mind through understanding what they reacted, adjusted the direction of writing in time to meet their request.Researchers always get academic resource from certain social historical circumstances; consequently, they receive text in the circumstances, and the circumstances restrict their study. The new culture of 'The May Fourth Movement' has already formed objective situation that researchers depended on since the twenties of the 20th century. Researchers must study under the restriction of history; it was apt to cause a deviation of studying. Meanwhile, researchers' expectation horizons were changing, their visual angles were different too. Researchers' understanding, judgments and appraising about Zhang Hen-shui varied in different eras. In the future, they should try to judge the modernized process of Chinese literature and culture more historically and more rationally by studying 'Zhang Hen-shui phenomenon' in the whole Chinese contemporary literature.
