This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part traces back to the origin of the Tibetan stone inscriptions culture based on some researches of archaeology and historical documents: marking the different stages of its development; stating its developing process by analyzing the content of inscriptions. The second part specifically discusses three sorts of stone inscriptions, paintings on rocks, stone tablets and scriptures on rocks. The third part is its distribution in Tibet during different periods of Tibetan history. The fourth part studies the unique feature of Tibetan stone inscriptions by description and analysis of the color, the picture and the content of stone inscriptions. The fifth part is a discussion of its important significance as a manifestation of culture to the various aspects of Tibetan society, such as politics, religion, culture itself, and so on.
