They See Them - On The Male Writers In The New Period The Image Of Women

Nowadays, with the heated studies of female literature, many male writers have portrayed all kinds of female images, which has aroused more and more attention. In different literary periods, many male writers of different literary schools, such as ZhangXian, ZhangXianLiang, JiaPingWa, MoYan, SuTong, ect, have been greatly interested in female literature. In their works, the female images can be approximately divided into three types: the first is an angel, who is pretty, kind-hearted and self-devoting; the second is like a devil, who is charming but evil and selfish; and the third is the mixture of an angel and an evil, who pursues true love but at the same time doesn't take it seriously. The last type of female image just belongs to the new generation, who wants to express their identity in their own ways.Why would these male writers prefer creating these typical female images? According to some psychologists, one's behaviour has its internal and external factors. This thesis analyses the nature of the females described in their works and explained why the male writers praise the females but at the same time look down upon them with a blasphemous attitude.The thesis is composed of three parts. In the first part it is focused on presenting the different female images in their works; in the second part, it explains how these differences come; and in the last part, it compares the contemporary male writers with the male writers in the May 4th Movement of 1919 in order to let us know their self-contradictory attitude towards females. From these, we know how we can realize the emancipation of women finally.
