Research On The Best-selling Writers In Mainland China

"Bestsellers" is an essential standard for the book industry to evaluate books and publications.It reflects the change of the public's cultural tastes and the trends of social public reading.Therefore,the group of the best-selling authors plays an important role in the cultural industry of our country and the nationwide reading.Under the over-all circumstances of the continuous integration in old and new media,the constant interaction between traditional literature and network literature and the continued progress of the nationwide reading,the best-selling authors develop a school of their own in cultural creation with their unique cultural perspectives,different creative ideas,distinctive contents and distinct group characteristics.Known as the world's first list of the status of Chinese writers'wealth,Writers Rich List,which has been successfully held for 11 times since it was founded in 2006 and whose social response was great,has become a super cultural brand and a mirror of best-selling authors.Based on the analysis of the data of the 2006-2016 lists,from the vision of Writers Rich List,this paper researches on the group of the best-selling authors from the mainland of China to comb its group structure,analyze its time feature,and explore its future trends,which has important practical significance for not only the publication industry but also the whole cultural undertakings.In the first two sections of this paper,the relevant theories and current researches about the group of the best-selling authors are elaborated,which lays the groundwork for the following research.The third section analyzes the group features of the best-selling authors from the Chinese mainland,which respectively focuses on the five aspects of their gender,birth year,native place,profession and royalty revenue,and then reveals the general characteristics of the group of the best-selling authors from the Chinese mainland.The fourth section dissects the five characteristics of the age among the group of the best-selling authors from the Chinese mainland,including the varieties of the participants,the diversification of their creative works,the writers' being 'branded',the marketization of writing and publishing,and the liberation of their concept of wealth.The fifth section investigates the holistic evaluation process of the authors on the lists since 2011 and discuss trends of their development of the group of the best-selling authors in the future.For instance,network writers gradually become the mainstream,the inter-media cooperation grows imperative.The last section reflects calmly,dialectically and rationally on the essence,value and limitations of the current group of the bestselling authors from a macroscopical,holistic and long-term view so as to make the best-selling authors consciously become broadcasters of the national culture and defenders of spirits.
