Pei Xing "legend" Narrative Research

The thesis discussed the four aspects on the Narrative feature of Chuan Qi, the novel collection in late Tang Dynasty: including themes, patterns, time and space, poelization of novel Narrative. First,, escapism and salvation are the two major themes of Chuan Qi, which reflect the ambivalence of clerisy in late Tang Dynasty. Second, in Chuan Qi, there are some mature patterns of Narrative, about the limited-knowing narrative in the all-known pattern. Specially, it made a new function for the narrator comment. Third, the time and space were obscure in Chuan Qi, and this makes the trend of expressive narrative. Forth, Chuan Qi not only observed the experience of using poems in novel, but also give the foretelling function to the poems of novel, as to poeticized the arrangement for the novel argument, which afforded the advantageous experience for the novels in the coming times.
