The Chinese intellectuals, who take part in society partly by means of literature, have always played an important part in literature history. Taking intellectual images and the ideal of intellectuals which underlies it as a sweeping clue, this thesis is tried to depict a clear track of the developing and changing of intellectuals which is a humanist literate phenomenon.This thesis is divided into four parts in structure.The first part: Interpreting the conception of the intellectuals, and from which producing the spiritual tradition of the Chinese intellectuals, and tracing back and generating the feature of intellectual images in modern Chinese literature.The second part: using "the success" of the song of youth as a case, analyze the reasons which cause the character defects of intellectuals; Taking "the Baihua literature"and the writing of the typical writers for example, disclose the hopeless struggling and soul-splitting of the writer's intellectual ideal under "heavy pressure".The third part: stressfully describing the course of the intellectual image's developing and changing from "God" to "Man", and selecting important novels to analyze culturally.The forth part: humanist values' decline and its performance in literature works in "multiple culture" context; the writing of contest and protect responds with the great discuss of the humanist spirits, together constructing the spiritual theme of cultural rebuilding.
