Prior to the World War II, the Quebec province of Canada had been a French-Canadian traditional agricultural society and became a modern society after the Quebec's "Quiet Revolution". This thesis analyses the process of transfer by the historical materialism. At the same time it was a nationalist transformation, the nationalism interacted with the modernization. Yet the excessive development of nationalism during the "Quiet Revolution" led to the rise of separatism eventually. So this thesis also pays more attention the relation of nationalism and modernization in Quebec's "Quiet Revolution".Part I mainly introduces the geographical and historical survey of Quebec province, its traditional agricultural society, and especially how did Quebec's early industrialization make an impact on Quebec society.Part II relates that Quebec's rapid progress of farther industrialization and urbanization was made by the chance of the World War II, which resulted in the new chance of social structure and French-Canadian mentality (ideology), including the rise of French-Canadian new middle class and the emergence of neo-nationalism. That is the prelude of the "Quiet Revolution" and the preparation of modernized transformation.Part III is on the modern reform in Quebec. It involves economic, political and social aspect. Quebec had become a modern society as other provinces hi Canada after the reform finished, but unfortunately the French-Canadian nationalism rose greatly either during the reform. It finally resulted in the separatism movement.Part IV makes a summary for Quebec's modernization. The modernization in Quebec had its commonness and particularity compared to typical modernization in other country; and it is both the cause and the basis for the French-Canadian neo-nationalism in Quebec.
