Research On Weng Wen Hao’s Thought Of Modernization

WengWenhao was a famous geologist, geographer, and economist in modernhistory of China. He was also the first doctor in geology in our country. In orderto change the backward state of poverty and weakness of modern China, heactively explored the road of modernization in China. Research onWengWenhao’s thought of modernization was beneficial both for deepening thefield of historical research and for having a reference for today ’s socialistmodernization construction.According to Weng Wenhao’s anthology, Weng Wenhao’s diary and academiaexisting research results, this paper systematically studied Weng Wenhao’sthought of modernization.The paper elaborated the content of Weng Wenhao’sthought of modernization from political,economic and scientific aspects, whichwas based on analyzing historical conditions. At the political level, WengWenhao stressed that the establishment of nation-state is the premise of China’smodernization, and administrative reform and scholars officials were importantway to realize political modernization; In economic terms, Weng Wenhaobelieve that industrialization was the cornerstone of economic, giving prior ity ofthe development to important area was the key to economic modernization, andimproving the quality of personnel was the guarantee of economic modernization;at the scientific level, Weng Wenhao advocated that both the natural and appliedscience developed at the same time, and cultivating scientists formed leadingforce in scientific modernization through developing education vigorously.Based on the analysis above, the paper commented on the characteristics,significance and limitations of Weng Wenhao’s thought of modernization. Ithighlighted the extreme importance of the development of science and industryin modern China, regarded the modernization of science as the beach thatrealized modernization in backward China, and regarded industrializatio n as thespindle of modernization. The practics of WengWenhao’s thought ofmodernization made the China’s geology and seismology close to internationalstandards, promoted China’s heavy industrial construction, laid certain materialfoundation for the victory of the anti-Japanese war, and also contributed to the development of China ’s modernization.However, due to the limitations of the times and the individual cognitive,Weng Wenhao advocated the improvement of the government of Chiang Kai-shek, and did not realize that to overthrow the rule Kuomintang of Chiang Kai-shek in modern China was the way to break through the shell of the semi-feudalChina to make modern China embark on healthy road of development. WengWenhao advocated the improvement of agricultural techniques, and did notrecognize feudal land ownership restricted the development of modernization inmodern China. Breaking the feudal land system was the key link of promotingthe modernization of China.In short, although Weng Wenhao’s thought of modernization had itslimitations, one flaw cannot obscure the splendor of the jade. The wisdom andcreativity which Weng Wenhao’s thought of modernization highlights wasimportant achievements which could not be ignored.
