As one kind of the stone Buddhist stelae, the Buddhist figured stelae was prevalent in the Nothern Dynasties. It is also a vary popular form in the folk Buddhist art in the Northern Dynasties. It combines the minority's aesthetic conception with the Han's profound culture. It is similar to others of the same period, but on the other hand, it's unique.In this article, based on quantity of material dates, we make a research into them of the Nothern Dynasties in the He and Luo region in the following four respects:First, we make an analysis of them in light of their type, topics and the figures, art styles and teckniques, inscription and calligraphy etc. In different period, there existed several kinds of formation. And each period had its own popular ones. Their theme ways of expressing and calligraphy was affected by the political background and the culture of that period as well as the Buddhism itself. This is the same to the cave art. The LongMen cave in Luo Yang and the XiangTang Mountain cave in HeBei made a deep effect on them.Second, we separate them into two sections according to their time. The first section is of the period from Late BeiWei dynasty to Dong Wei ang XiWei. The second section is of the BeiQi and BeiZHou.Third, we explain the reason causing the above attributes of these Buddhist figured stelae. The natural area and the affluent stone resource is the basis of such attributes. The LongMen cave and the XiangTang Mountain cave are the source of such attributes.Last, we point out the influence of these stelaes.
