TangXianzu was a drama writer living in the Ming Dynasty. He was much like a thinker. His "LinChuanSiMeng" was the summit of Chinese ancient opera. In this thesis, in a general view, we try to analyze the relationship between his life philosophy and his opera-composing, so as to understand the meaning and value of these four pieces of works. We separate this thesis into four sections:In section one, we analyze the meaning of his personality ideal, the cause of it and Tang's contradictive feeling when it couldn't come true in reality. He personality ideal was caused by the traditional ideas, the periodical conception and his unusual experience. It was made up of three factors: being candid, being initiative, having his own doctrine. It was somewhat ideal, so it was certain to fail.In section two, we discuss his way of opera-composing, which took affection as its center, dreams as its means, sincerity as its pursuit. And Tang's view of life and philosophy was the theoretic basis of such a literary thought. In section three, we make a specific illustration of his works. Tang's pursuit of a ideal world, his outlook of the reality and his complicated feeling were all embodied inthese works. They are the output of Tang's life philosophy--from "affection" to"imagination".At last, we summarize that "LinChuanSiMeng" was tightly connected with Tang's personality and his concept of opera-composing. It is because of their close combination that TangXianzu was so much prominent in Chinese ancient literature.
