This thesis focuses on the elaboration of legato through the interacting application of some skills. The main purpose is not only to explain the importance and role of legato in expressing the wholeness of the works ,but also to make people know the speciality of legato and try to grasp the essense of legato in order to grab the Bel canto skill and style more correctly, therefore, to use legato in singing of Chinese works is the supreme aim. This thesis is composed of three parts:Part I: Discusses the meaning of legato and other related questions.The stress is on what is legato and its significance. Then explains in details the importance and meaning of the elements which construct legato. PartII: Explores the application of legato skill in singing and teaching. I explain several important elements how to legato in works, then tack about the interacting relations of some elements and point out that legato is the interacting synthesis of many singing factors.PartIII: Conclusion .The significance of legato in Bel canto is reiterated and its fundamental position in singing and teaching is also emphasized.
