Picture culture is one of the most attractive cultural phenomena in the 20th century. Movies, TV and network have become a indispensable part of modem people life, so the study of picture culture has become a focal point in the field of cultural studies. Then we will begin a piece of research in this field according to the ideological way in this thesis.The thesis consists of 5 parts.Part one supposes a definition of picture culture and picture culture differing from visual culture. It summarizes the 3 directions of studying in the field at present in world and points out their advantages and disadvantages. By analyzing 3 directions, we find a new way to study picture culture-ideology.Part two talks about the change from "the mode of production" to "the mode of information" in the late capitalism. It is the most important that we draw a general idea of the new mode of production consisting of two sides, one side is the material production and another is spirits of the production. At the same time we discuss the development of "the mode of information" .Part three demonstrates a transformation taking place in the late capitalism, that is to say the mode of ideology is taking place a change from "Ideological State Apparatuses" to "Ideological Culture Apparatuses". Then culture industry has taken the place of the state in social power field and taken part in the course of productions of subject.Part four explains "resistance of image" and "hegemony of image". First we suggest a definition about hegemony which Gramsci used it firstly. Second we point out that the picture culture consists of complicated condition of power conflict.Part five depicts a picture of hope about picture culture. We analyse the Chinese picture culture at the present age, and point to its merits and disadvantages.
