Shi is one of the important categories in the fields of ancient Chinese philosophy, aesthetics and art. There have already been a lot of works on Shi. But most of the researches are concentrated in the field of philosophy, and there are few studies in both aesthetics and literature. The obvious deficiency is that Shi is regarded as a self-proved concept, and there is no deep analysis except for the superficial description of it. So this thesis focuses on the analysis of the meaning of Shi on the base of the literary practices and literary theory.1. Introduction. A general evaluation of current study on Shi and the subject of this thesis.2. Text. This text is divided into four parts.Part one. Meaning and cultural connotation. This part starts from the origins of the thought of Shi and concentrates on the meaning of Shi. Then it makes a detailed analysis of Shi's Chinese cultural background. Form three aspects, that is, its structure and form, philosophical and psychological significances, this part will research why Shi appear in ancient China.Part two. Shi out and in the field of literature. Shi appeared first in the categories of calligraphy and painting, then to literature. This part is mainly to analysis how Shi is transferred into a literary category. The difference between Shi in Literature and that in arts lies in the differences between form and language.Part three. Shi's existential form, aesthetic characteristics and modernexplanation. This is the center of this thesis. First of all, it researches Shi's existences in history and analyses its logic forms. Secondly, this thesis deplores how Shi in literature is shown in language, structure and image. The space-time appearance is concerned too. Finally, it comes to the modernABSTRACTexplanation of Shi by virtue of gestalt theory.Part four. Value of Shi. Shi regulates the forms of literary language and artistic styles. Meanwhile,.it evolves with the development of literature and arts. And there is still space for it to develop.3. Conclusion. This thesis is to explain clearly the intension, form and appearance of the Shi of literature.
