The literary position of Tang-song school's literary theory and artistic creation has been a controversial matter ever since Ming Dynasty. Especially, the research on its core member, Tang Shunzhi, was not clear and even much misunderstood. This thesis attempts to make a systematic research on Tang Shunzhi. Through exploring his literary thinking and artistic creation, the thesis points out his life-long academic conditions in order to clear up misunderstandings about him and look into the academic origin and changes of Mid-Ming Dynasty. On the basis of Tang Shunzhi's three academic phases, the thesis analyzes his thinking conditions and critical views on each phase of his life, makes clear his literary link and researches into his artistic features and critical value. The thesis has two chapters. First, Chapter One divides Tang Shunzhi's life into three phases and analyzes his thinking conditions on each phase. The analysis involves the social and cultural background of the time and the theoretical trends of the two schools: the school "back to the ancients" and Tang-song school. Then, Chapter Two analyzes the reason, background and conditions of why Tang Shunzhi's poems pale beside his prose, summarizes the value of his literary criticism, and thus corrects obscurity and mistakes in the research on Tang Shunzhi.Additionally, for further research and consultation, Tang Sunzhi's simple chronicle is attached below.
