Sanmao, the female writer enjoying popular fame across the Straits in the 1980s, has been characterized by her determined pursuit of life ideal and a unusual life pattern. Her colorful and uncommon life experience natural and unrestrained characters and innocent style in writing, all contribute to the charm with uniqueness in her works. The present thesis, in a perspective of psychological analysis and cultural criticism, made a probe into Sanmao's sentimental evolution and literary creation with an attempt to expound he composition based on an exhaustive, profound and meticulous study. The authoress laid emphasis on precise analysis on the spiritual development throughout her life, aiming to trace her unusual existence as a vagrant and the motivations underlying her creation, thus revealing her unique value and referential significance in terms of a writer and her works.The thesis consists of five parts with: chapter I , the introduction, dealing with the life and works of Sanmao, reviewing the studies on Sanmao over the years, surveying the advance in the studies home and abroad, and stating her approaches to the study. The following parts, entitled "Comes No Raining Season", "Weeping Camels" and "Falling Flowers in My Dream", according to Sanmao's sentiment evolution, made further account respectively. The chapter "Comes No Raining Season" mainly explored the conception of awareness of isolation and the germination of awareness of death and the influence of the two upon her literary creation before studying abroad. Focusing on vagrant life — Sanmao's unique survival behavior, the chapter "Weeping Camels" intended to investigate the spiritual motivations underlying her long vagrant life, the chapter "Falling Flowers in My Dream", basing on the account of the decease of Sanmao's husband and the consequent blow , laid emphasis on elaboration of the tendency of mysticism in her work composed in late years, and presented a thorough and meticulous analysis on the internal and external reasons that leads to her suicide. The final part, the conclusion, summed up the central idea and realistic significance.
