Review Of Foot-binding Activity Of The End Of The Qing Dynasty Official Admonish

It was the nongovernmental organizations that initiated the Movementof Loosening of Foot Binding (MLFB) during the end of Qing Dynasty,and only a few open-minded officials who supported loosening of the footbinding publicly before 1902. In 1902, Qing Government issued theimperial edict of admonishing the foot binding, which indicated that theGovernment advocated the MLFB officially and it became thegovernmental action from then on. After that, many magistrates alsoissued proclamations and took some measures to admonish the footbinding so as to promote the developments of the MLFB throughout thecountry. This article included five parts totally. The first part introduced theactions of the re-binding of foot of Qing Government before 1902 simply;the second part analyzed the background of the imperial edict which QingGovernment issued to admonish the foot binding in 1902, and at the samethat, it also narrated the situations of the magistrates who took active partin the movement; the third part inspected the specific contents andmeasures of the admonishing the foot binding of the government indetails; and the fourth part summed up the effects of the MLFB in the endof Qing Dynasty; the last part was the evaluation of mine to the activitiesthat the government admonished the foot binding. We could draw the conclusion that, it was the participation of thegovernment that the MLFB had had much more universality andinfluences than ever. During the period of the movement, QingGovernment acted as a supervisor which instructed and promoted theMLFB developing in depth.
