While the market economy is developing in great momentum in China, the behaviors of many people are sometimes found to be against the common business morals. Although economic theories and arguments may give some explanation on why sometimes business morals are disrespected and disobeyed, they don't turn out the same effective in explaining why people's minds are tortured by the conflict between business morals and the pursuit for business interests, and their inability to harmonize daily morals with business morals. Through a series of original case studies, this essay discusses the phenomenon that some individuals pursue different morals in business and their daily lives.The study is carried out against the backdrop of a socialist market economy. A few theories and method, such as case survey, case study, ethics theories, economic theories, traditional Chinese philosophies and western philosophies were adopted to study the split between daily morals and business morals in this particular market economy. The Essay is organized in five parts:1. The factual and theoretical relation between Economics and Ethics, and between the economy and morality.2. Through the explanation of daily morals and interviews on four department managers in four companies, asking their opinions on themoral quality of job applicants, this part discusses the key role that daily ethics plays in corporate development.3. Some behaviors and events that are regarded as violating business ethics are discusses in this part. Two real example were demonstrated and later on analyzed.4. On summarizing the above cases, this part proposed three reasons for the split between daily morals and business morals: (a), the social economic reasons of the disobeying of business morals; (b)the split between economics and ethics, (c).the conflict between individual ethics and group interest; (d). the features of daily ethics5.This part tries to explore resolutions for the split. Both examples and reasons are given to demonstrate that the harmony between daily morals and business morals is possible. Further on, the establishmentof a moral standard that emphasize on altruism and the establishment of altruistic ethics was suggested and the founding of ethics systems and ethics environment was also disused.
