Creative Thinking And Design Foundation Course Of Modern Art

Since the early 20th century, modern Visual Art has had a history of more than 100 years. As an indispensable part of it, modern Design Arts has experienced a development from birth to thriving. The essay traces briefly the significant trends in modern Western Plastic Arts and Design Arts, and investigates the motive power behind the innovative ideas in these courses. The great development of "the creative thinking of Arts" in modern Visual Arts has become one of its most important characteristics and incentives.Western modern Arts and Design have developed far earlier than Chinese Modern Arts and Design. The emphasize they put on creativity and practical ability, together with its education system and teaching method, has set up a good example for Chinese arts educators to follow. This study discusses its current situation in western Institutions of Arts and their advanced teaching methods. Moreover, the essay discusses the influence the advanced methods of western arts have on Chinese modern Design Arts.In the middle of 1980s, modern Composition Arts, a basic course of modern arts, was introduced into Chinese. With a history of more than 20 years, the course of modern Composition Arts has educated large numbers of artistic professionals. However, some of the textbooks and teaching methods are relatively conservative and backward, which, to some extent, have restricted the development of student's originality. As a result, the contemporary education in China is unable to keep pace with the fast development of modern design. The essay focuses on the introduction, the development, and the current situation of basic courses of Chinese design arts, and investigates its great gap in relation to those of western Design Arts. Besides, based on the analysis of some of collected textbooks of Design Arts, the author raises some questions.With the study of western modern arts, the essay aims to explore the mutual infiltration and influence between modern arts and modern design, as well as the characteristic of "Creative thinking of arts" and its impetus to the development of modern arts and modern design. In addition, the author tries to apply this teaching method in the whole process of basic design courses, hoping to encourage students' "creative thinking" and practical ability. The study helps improve the teaching of basic arts courses and cultivate students' creativity and study interest, which in turn will broaden their mind and aesthetic standards.
