Beijing Miaofengshan Incense Will Organizational Change Research

The purpose of this thesis was to reveal the changes of religious organizations that embraced the traditional belief in Pi-hsia Yuan-chun.In the introduction, the author analyzed the value of the thesis theme by reviewing the academic history of this topic, and emphasized that the methods of study which combined the history documents and field survey.In the first chapter, the author narrated the great influence of the traditional belief in Pi-hsia Yuan-chun on Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations. Through the analysis of the folklores of Miao-feng Mountain, the author summarized the characters of the traditional belief in Pi-hsia Yuan-chun.In the second chapter, the author investigated the traditional Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations mainly. There were two kinds of organizations in the traditional Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations. One was Wen-organization, which provided pilgrims with services and offered some application for the temples; the other was Wu-organization, which expressed their belief in Pi-hsia Yuan-chun by ceremonial performance. Through listing and summing up the data of about fifty Wen-organizations and thirteen Wu-organizations, the author concluded the characteristics of Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations.In the third chapter, the author paid attention to the modern Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations. After the 1990s, the religious organizations that embraced the belief in Pi-hsia Yuan-chun revived, because of the endeavor of the government and the efforts of elites of religious organizations. They inherited the soul of the traditional religious organizations at the same time they reflected the changes of the society. Therefore there was a pluralistic trend in the modern Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations. In this chapter, the author emphasized the social function of the modern Miao-feng Mountain religious organizations.In the conclusion, the author found the solutions to the problems in the process of the religious organizations' revival, according to the results of analysis of the religious organizations that embraced the traditional belief in Pi-hsia Yuan-chun.
