"Moon" is one of the earliest appeared image in the Chinese ancient poems. She has been consistent gladness of every dynasty's poets because of her capacity of reflecting everything of all world and her foggy and indistinct characteristic, and become their carrier to express specifically emotional. Especially in Tang dynasty's poets, the image of moon made a large development not only in the enrichment of sensibility but in its expressive force of artistry. Because of this, the image of moon becomes the main task to discuss in this thesis. Four parts will be divided as follow:The first part has arranged the image of moon before the Tang dynasty's poets in detail. Based its different development history, we can divide into three phases: the image of moon in Pre-Qin dynasty mainly appears at the same time by the moon and the sun, or coordinate or opposite. It's more banausic but less substantive, and less relation with sensibility. Moreover, it mostly appears with the symbol of time, therefore, in strict sense, most of the "moon" in this period can't be named as image, and only a inchoation of the image of the moon. The image of moon separates from the coordinate or opposite situation between the sun and the moon in Han and Wei dynasty. It has luscious Lyric tinct and steady relation with the sensibility such as miss and unhappiness and so on. This is the interim of the image of moon. By Jin dynasty the image has token a more development. In addition of the miss and unhappiness, it appears not only the sensibility of meditation on the past, nostalgia, and condolence but the image of describing female feature and accouterment or amorous feelings in harim. This is more closely with emotion than before. So it is a developing period of the image of moon.The second part analyses the emotional meanings of the image of moon in Tang dynasty in detail. Five sub-parts can be divided into. The first is the image of moon of parting and missing, this will be discussed from two aspects including "send-off' and "missing each other". The second is the image of moon of missing native land from "Stiff journey" to "frontier fortress". The third is the image of moon of loneliness and chill, discussing from "loneliness in deep and serene palace" to "chill on official career". The forth is the image of moon of thinking and exploration including searching for the voluminousness and philosophy of the metagalaxy, life, history etc. The last is the image of the high-minded sentiment, in which largo bosom be committed by the literator.The third part mainly analyses the artistic character.
