In the May Fourth Movement literature with many famous novelists, Yu Dafu's novel is themost inner-inclining existence which has the most humanity. In the classic literature, its aestheticstyle is often defined as " romantic doctrine", and some temporary scholars doubt it. This articlehas no intention to take great pains to define his novels with some "doctrine",because it is adiverse existence. This article denominates his novel as "mood novel"according to the topic of hisnovel, and puts it in the hundred years long river of literature to elucidate its particular aestheticstyle, and tries to discover the beneficial quest for the "turn inside"of the Chinese modern novelwhich made by his novel and the influence on the future generations. This thesis is divided into four major chapters.First is the cold motion-expressing.This chapter mainly expounds the theme of Yu Dafu's mood novel. Yu Dafu's novelexpresses cold motion of modern people from the angle of "sex"oppression, and sends out theforceful cry for humanity-reversion, and acts as the most characteristic response to the 54sex-liberation, and it has the deep and wide social content. Its inner-inclining mental-aestheticvisual-angle exploits the art-performance realm of the novel, and has made great contributions tothe "turn-inside"of Chinese novels. The second chapter is the melancholy and grievous motion keynote. Its melancholy and grievous motion keynote is not only determined by its cold motion-contentsbut also enslaved to the author's life-experiences, aesthetic sense and the cultural backgroundwhich he is in. This basic tone of mood not only truly reflects the modern intellectuals in the MayFourth Movement in the self-observation mode and psychological transformation, but also infusesa bran-new aesthetic style for Chinese modern literature. The third chapter is the artistic reform of mood and novel style. In order to express mood fully, Yu Dafu initiates prosaic mood novel style. His novels take oncharacteristics of prose and poetry. The profundity of theme is replaced by candor ofself-expression. Characters become puppet of mood and plot structures change along with mood.
