Peer relations were an important factor of the adjustment of social emotion, it was important for the development and social adjustment of children and adolescents. In such a background, the present study tried to explore the relation of peer relations, social behavior and self-perceived social competence to loneliness, Sociometric nomination and questionnaire method were applied in this survey. 600 children in two elementary schools, from the third grade to the sixth grade, took part in this study.The findings indicated that:1 .There was significant gender difference on scores of loneliness, and boys show higher loneliness than girls; There was not significant grade difference on scores of loneliness.2. Significantly negative correlation was found between child's loneliness and social preference, prosocial behaviour, self-perceived social competence; significantly positive correlation was found between loneliness and aggressive behavior, withdrawal behaviour.3. Popular children reported significantly lower scores of loneliness than did the rejected, the neglected, the controversial and the average; Controversial children reported significantly lower scores of loneliness than the rejected, the neglected and the average; Average children reported significantly lower scores of loneliness than the rejected, the neglected .Children who reported higher level of self-perceived social competence scored significantly lower for loneliness than did those who reported average and lower ones, and children who reported average level of self-perceived social competence scored significantly lower for loneliness than did those who reported lower ones. The children who reported higher level of prosocial behavior scored significantly lower for loneliness than did those who reported average and lower ones, children who reported average level of prosocial behavior scored significantly lower for loneliness than did those who reported lower ones.
