In academic circles, Structurism Narratology originated in France in 1960s is called Classical Narratology. The Narratology, which became popular in 1990s and has many branches and absorbed widely the academic accomplishments of Feminism, Neo-Historicism, Post-Sturcturism, Reader-Response Criticism, Receptive Aesthetics, Depth Psychology and computer science is called Post-Classical Narratology. This viewpoint is amended in a certain degree in this thesis. All that has heterogeneous characteristic comparing with Structurism Narratology should be regarded as part of Post-Classical Narratology. Post-Classical Narratology, relative to Classical Narratology, has more than one developmental trend and they are interpreted in four aspects and its transcendency to the latter is also included.Firstly, the trend to modem science and technology. Post-Classical Narratology absorbs modern scientific and technical accomplishments of computer science and artificial intelligence etc. On the one hand, it borrows several concepts from computer and World Wide Web in a metaphorical way to obtain a more detailed description of narrative literature works. On the other hand, narratologists apply the findings of artificial intelligence on man's cognitive actions to narratology, so an important branch — Cognitive Narratology appears, which focuses on readers' cognitive patterns during their dynamic reading.Secondly, the trend to the outside of text. A primary trend of Post-Classical Narratology is from internal study to both internal and external study, which is expatiated from two aspects: readers and context. In Classical Narratology, it is considered that s juzhet is determined by fabula and is the conformation of fabula in text. However, in Post-Classical Narratology, it is thought that fabula is reader's interpretation according to the s juzhet and fabula is exhibition of s juzhet. During the course of interpretation, context-space time of readers is an important factor.Thirdly, the trend to ideology. As narratologists' concern changes from puretextual study to society, history, aesthetics and culture, one main feature of Narratology is to disclose the ideological implication of text which exists in two forms: one is explicit ideological theory in textual analysis represented by Feministic Narratology; another is implicit ideological tendency in literary theory represented by Post-Historical Narratology.Fourthly, the trend to Social Narratology. Comparing with Classical Narratology, Social Narratology is an independent branch. Ian P Watt is the exploiter of the branch. Later, Geng zhanchun, a Chinese scholar, has made creative contribution in the area. One of Geng's essential viewpoints is that there are isomorphic nature and intertextuality between the structure of fiction and the structure of society and history.
