In 1985, the Relics and Archaeology Institute of Xinjing Weiwuer Autonomous Region conducted an investigation into rock arts at Qiongkeke site, located at Nileke Conunty, Xinjiang Weiwuer Autonomous Region. But this investigation didn't cover all the samples until Professor Wang Jianxin and his students from the Archaeology Department, Northwest University re-examined this site and detailedly filed all their findings, including 49 rocks with over 80 rock arts carved on them. This thesis, based on these records and files, consist of three chapters, not including the conclusion. The first chapter introduces the current situation of rock arts studies in North China and my views on the common problemes in this regard. The second chapter, the main body of the thesis, introduces all the findings about rock arts at the Qiongkeke site. The methodology of typology is applied to the study of rock arts. Putting the materials related into different types and different stages. Moreover, the concept of FU is first put forward. All the arts on a rock can be divided into differrent FU according to factors like relevancy of content, consistency of color and styles, similarity of making process etc. Then, it discusses the coexistence between rock arts and other archaeological cultural relics, finally confirming the date and nationality of rock arts's. The third chapter is to discuss three minor issues relating to Qiongkeke rock arts and to give my views on the significance of typolgy in the study of Qiongkeke rock arts and its insights into the archaeological research in Ili district. The research on Qiongkeke rock arts, on one side, is to introduce these new findings in a brand-new way. On the other side, it is a new attempt to aplly typological methods to the filing and research of rock arts, which preliminarily proves to be feasible as well as possible.
