Chinese American literature has undergone a long time of development since the 19th century. It was not until Kingston published The Women Warrior that Chinese American literature came into its sparkling stage. Then Amy Tan turned a new page with her The Joy Luck Club published in 1989.Amy Tan's works could be regarded as a continuation of Kingston's in themes and writing styles. Both of them are greatly influenced by the Chinese traditional culture and literature and western culture and literature. They adopt traditional Chinese narrative structures and talk story traditions to present many vivid pictures of Chinese Americans' lives, especially the mother-daughter relationships to explore the cultural conflicts and cultural integration so as to prove the possibilities for people from different cultural backgrounds to live peacefully together.
