Mr.Du Ming xin is a professor and doctoral tutor in the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, and he is a well-known composer in the world's musical circles as well.During the past 50 years of his composition career, Mr.Du has gradually developed a composition style characterized by elegance, grace and affection, which combines the system of tonality music and fork music, reflecting his distinctive perspective and world outlook.Mr.Du covers a wide scope in his works, including symphony, symphonic poem and tone picture, opera, ballet, backgrond music in film & plays, piano and violin solo, ensemble and concerto, as well as vocal music. In general, he has succeeded a great deal in musical composition by hard work within the 50 years. In view of the important role of his piano music in his composition career, this thesis based on an analysis of Mr.Du's three piano solo, there suites, and one concerto, aim at a historical review and systematic analysis of three masterpieces which were composed in different periods in a 50-year career, namely《Variation》, 《Toccata》, and 《For Gu Lang Island》. It intends to interpret the composer's creation intent and his artistic idea, which may provide a historical perpective for the understanding of the creation backgrond and intention, the individual style, the epochal character and the artistic style of the three pieces. Through such an analysis this thesis will hopefully provide a theoretical basis for the composer's composition, as well as insight into his inner world, his music life and his artistic feelings.
