Above The Earthly, Nothing Under

Since the first short story Cabin on the Mountain written by Canxue waspublished in 1985, the critical circles hold different comments on her works. On theone hand, praises can be heard endlessly;on the other hand, malicious commentswaves resistibly, which may be said "All things to all men". But a consensus has beenreached in the critical circles that the first problem they encounter is the obscurecontent and the unique form regardless of the theory they use and the aspects theychoose to interpret the text written by Canxue. However, different people havedifferent opinions of the specific reasons for the problem. In my view, the obscurecontent and the unique form of Canxue's text lie not only in the usage of absurdity,exaggeration, distortion, balderdash and other modern methods of art, but also in theexploration of the poetic spirit. Poetic spirit is not a rigid, static concept, but is abreakout to the existence and the language (Heidegger's language ) .It is the highestunderstanding of the life. Had it, the performance of human nature only then becomethe possibility, the desire only then have the correct outlet. And it is born inside thelife itself, as well as in the fighting between desire and consciousness. When itappears, it heralds in advance the war of the soul world, the endless wrestling andkilling, and the everlasting struggling. To be bluntly, poetic spirit is one's attitudetoward death, and it is also concentrated survival predicted by death, just likeHeidegger's "Being-towards-death". This paper makes a broad carding and interpretsof Canxue's works from the aspect of poetic spirit, and inquires the new possibility ofinterpretation of her works.The paper, divided into five parts altogether, analyzes and inquires both thecontents and the form with the focus of the image, language and style. The first partmakes a through inquiry the construction of poetic quality of personal fable. Theconsciousness of the death means self-awareness awakening in the certaindegree .Canxue emphasizes the individual nature in her works. However, She does notdescribe orderly the sphere of consciousness that is the reflection of the individual,but makes good use of the living environment and subconscious space to construct herworks. It contains her personal understanding of the life and the world. The secondpart inquires into the poetic construction of the deep soul. Canxue's works are thefable of the soul. The construction of the soul is rich in "non-stop rhythm of life", "therestriction and the promotion of the noble sense toward the original movement", aswell as " the mysterious complex relationship between them ". The physical life willcertainly wither away , but the noble rationality may lead the life going far away. Thethird part is about poetic statement of illusion world. Canxue devotes herself to anillusion world which is different from the real one. People and things in this illusionworld can meet Death which stands for nihility at any time, and can come and gofreely between "being here" and "being there". Taking advantage of this opportunity,they express their understanding of the poetic spirit by adopting the way of poeticstatement. Part Four puts point on the extremely ugly poetic imagery. Canxue'sconsciousness of the appreciation of the ugly is much stronger and more bigoted thanother writers in the same period. But her aim is to deny ugliness, to excavate beauty,and to express her desire and pursuit towards beauty. So, the most ugly imagepossesses poetic flavor. Part Five bases itself upon the dreamy and imaginary poeticform. Cancue's creative work belongs typically to the pure literature creations. Andthe sense of form is the most important thing of pure literature, which itself is aunique pattern of the spirit. The use of poetic forms and the text contents arecomplementary and mutually reinforcing.On the foundation of the summary to the entire paper , I make the conclusion andpoint out the distinctive quality of Canxue's creation, as well as this article'ssignificance.
