" Romeo And Juliet" stem from the England Renaissance time highly respectedperson on play ——Shakespeare's tragedy. This literary work profoundly whipsdecayed feudal society and publicizes lofty and immortal love through describesRomeo and Juliet's sincere love and the intense resistance of the feudal family's deepenmity from generation to generation. This literature work even moved manymusicians to do music creation according to this theme , but few work in numbercould withstand the time test but not to lose its artistic value. In these works ,Russiancomposer Tchaikovsky's Overture-Fantasy " Romeo And Juliet" which did for theorchestra was an excellent work. This work used different music subject to represent the different play image ,andselected several representative play scene through the presentation, launches andcontrasts of the music subject to promulgate the thought of the play. In this work, theclear and touching melody, the intense theatrical nature, the writing way of symphonystyle with extremely rich expression and the harmonic technique which had the richnational style all made the extremely profound impression to us. It manifestsTchaikovsky's seeking to the harmonic technique with personalization . The present thesis is considered Russian composer Tchaikovsky'sOverture-Fantasy " Romeo And Juliet" as the research object . According to thestructure of totality-section-totality, it divides four chapters to analyze this work : The first chapter : Tchaikovsky and his music creation, which introduces from twoparts, that is : Tchaikovsky's biography and the environment and background of hismusical creation. This chapter introduces these contents including composer'sbiography , music achievement and social historical cultural background. The second chapter is the general survey of overture-fantasy for full symphonycomposition "Romeo And Juliet", including introduction to the process of thecreation ,the comparation of three revision, content outline of the play, and analysisof the form structure and tonality layout in the work. This is the first assurance to thegeneral picture of the work from macroscopic direction.The third chapter analyzes harmonic characteristic of the overture-fantasy for fullsymphony composition "Romeo And Juliet" , which dissects from three respects:(1)the function of harmonic in the combination of different tonalities(2) the chordmaterial and harmonic vocabulary(3)the function in molding the image of subject ofharmonic language .This chapter gives an example to discuss the Russian tonalitysystem and classical tonality system, and individualized chord material and harmonythat the composer uses on such a mode foundation, and discusses the importantfunction that the harmony expresses to theme image-building and music thought.This veals Tchaivsky's harmony technique which inherits the tradition and nationalstyle as well as initiative spirit and composer's persistent pursuit to the perfectartical boundary .The fourth chapter: harmonic elegant demeanor of Overture-Fantasy for fullsymphony composition "Romeo and Juliet", and sum up from tworespects :The survey of the harmony artistic elegance and the national characteristicof Tchaikovsky's music. The part sums up the view of harmony analysis all over thethesis, and discusses the national characteristic of Tchaikovsky's music ,then pointsout the national characteristic of Tchaikovsky's music is the perpetual glamor of hismusic.This thesis sets the harmony analysis of Overture-Fantasy " Romeo And Juliet"as the main line, with the analytical methods of musicology , sociology , history ,science of culture, it has restricted Tchaikovsky's harmony technique to expect castinga brick to attract jade in order to cause more research of Tchaikovsky's musicalcreation. The study of Tchaikovsky's harmony technique plays an important role to theseeker who devotes to music composition and opening up the new realm of thedevelopment of national music.
