The testing of speaking is widely regarded as the most challenging of all language exams. For this reason, many people don't even try to measure the speaking skill. They simply don't know where to begin the task of evaluating spoken language. On the other hand, with the development of domestic English teaching and testing, along with that of economy of our country, tests for spoken English have been yearned for due to the fact that more and more qualified English speakers are desired in all walks of life. However, when we cheer for the application of spoken English tests for non-English majors (i.e. PETS and CET-SET), we have to admit that the study of testing spoken English within our country is still at its early stage, and so much remains to be desired.One purpose of this thesis is to remove a good deal of mystery surrounding speaking tests. Another purpose is to Improve Oral English Teaching through College Spoken English Test.This thesis consists of four chapters, excluding the introduction at the outset andthe conclusion at the end. Chapter 1 introduces conditions under which college spokenEnglish test comes into being and its importance. In Chapter 2, a set of hypothesizedprinciples for classroom teaching is presented, and a rationale for each principle is given.The chapter then looks at a variety of methodological approaches, both from a historicalperspective and in terms of current practices, analyzing their features. It also presents therelationship between oral English teaching and different approaches, then expresses theimportance of oral English test.Chapter3 finds and presents some questions by makingquestionnaires and analyzing some data. Chapter 4 is some suggestions about CollegeSpoken English Test and Oral English Teaching. Chapter Four provides somesuggestions about testing spoken English in college from the teachers and the students'aspects including helping the students getting away from the Psychology Obstacles andintroducing some advanced teaching methods.To conclude, it is emphasized in the thesis again the importance of the testing spoken English and that balanced approach should be adopted in the testing spoken English, and a thorough understanding of the nature and the basic principles of oral tests should be known to the tester and then oral English teaching in college will be improved.
