Lu Yun was an important litterateur and essayist in the Early Jin Dynasty, and was called together with his brother Lu Ji as'Er Lu'(二陆). However, for Lu Ji's outstanding achievements, people obviously paid more attention to him rather than to Lu Yun. Research on Lu Yun was also limited. This thesis strives to make a systematic exploration on Lu Yun's life experience, official career, theoretical opinions and literary creation. The main body consists of four chapters, with a prolegomenon before them.The preface mainly introduces the purpose and significance of this thesis, pointing out that Lu Yun is an important character in the literature field of the Western Jin Dynasty , and the systematic research on him will be beneficial to the whole Taikang literature.Chapter One is a conclusion of current research work done on Lu Yun and some existing problems. Through all-round analysis of current research done on Lu Yun's life experience, official career, literary thoughts and literary activities, some existing problems are listed here: some items concerning Lu Yun's life experience and official career need to be further clarified, and research on his specific works is still limited. These problems are the focuses of this thesis.Chapter Two concerns a textual research on some important yet controversial aspects of Lu Yun's life experience and official career. The conclusions are : [1] Lu Yun's hometown was Huating of Wu county (now the Songjiang county of Shanghai) [2] In the first year of Taikang (280), Lu Yun worked as Zhou Jun'Zhubu in Shouchun, then in Moling in the second year (281). [3] Lu Yun might worked as the prince's Sheren in the sixth year of Taikang (285), or as early as the third year of Taikang (282). [4] Lu Yun assumed the office of county magistrate of Jun Yi in the sixth year of Taikang (285) or in the late Taikang. [5] Lu Yun might worked as Langzhongli for King Wu for three years between the six year of Taikang (296) and the first year of Yong kang (300).Chapter Three is mainly about Lu Yun's literary thoughts. Based on textual analysis, this chapter analyses the connotations of Lu Yun's theory of elegance and conciseness in style, and also explores how this theory came into being. What the...
