When Chinese Aesthetics in the 20th century is focused on, Fen Zikai is always regarded as an artist. However, with the further development of Academic theories, his art and aesthetic theories have been gradually recognized and emphasized by more and more scholars.Considering the specific situation of and the problems existing on the studies about Fen Zikai, this thesis systematically coordinates and expounds his art aesthetic theories, aiming at digging up the true meaning of his art and aesthetic theories, so as to establish his standing in the aesthetic history of 20th century.This thesis is divided into three chapters. In Chapter One, the special time and cultural background in the 20th century when Fen Zikai lived is introduced. So are the sources of his art aesthetic theories: his combination of Confucian and Buddhist ideas; his acceptance of western theories and understanding them by the perspective of Confucianism. And this makes the basis for the illumination of his theories in the following.Chapter Two introduces the basic meaning of Fen's art and aesthetic theories, which is the keystone of this thesis, aiming at exposing the true meaning of his theories. Fen's art and aesthetic theories are systematically coordinated and expounded from two perspectives: art noumenon and art value, the former is explained involving three aspects: Fen's thought of art aesthetic noumenon, the center of which is "truth, kindness and beauty"; his view of art aesthetic sense, that is, pursuing the beauty of "Zhong He"; and his view on the sameness relationship between the subject and object. The latter is developed into two points: the art function view emphasizing the realistic meaning and the art education view stressing personality and culture. At the end of this chapter, the features applied by Fen to interpret his theories are summarized: simple language, deep meaning; understanding and expressing by his feeling.The focus in Chapter Three is the limitations of Fen's theories since the theories...
