This essay takes the polyphony literature style emerged in 12 century in Europe- religious texts song as a clue, concentrates on the main points to comb"Modal rhythm"from the article"Mensural rhythm"and"Isorhythmic"three important rhythms phenomena, does the crosswise contrast -like to three structures characteristics research, abstracts its general character, cites thess as as proof of the discussion of the western music rhythm evolution rule."Modal rhythm","Mensural rhythm"and"Isorhythmic", the three concepts implications, not only is one kind of narrow sense in view of some kind "the rhythm structure" indicating, but also lies in them to represent some kind of specific music shape separately in some specific time. But this essay does not omnidirectionally discuss each kind of shape characteristic of the religious texts song (for example melody characteristic and sound characteristic and so on), only strips its rhythm characteristic to conduct the research. In the time span, the essay also mainly defines in the western music history the later period of "the middle ages".The full text consists of the introduction, noumenon, and the conclusion three parts. The noumenon part narrates the rhythm main structure rule of"Modal rhythm","Mensural rhythm"and"Isorhythmic", moreover each chapter briefly summarizes the main body content. The final conclusion discusses the partial three chapters to carry on the induction and the summary, reflected the research mentality and the conclusion of this essay.
