The water culture in China is of long standing. Owing to residing waterside, people adored water from remote antiquity ancestor. Comparing the water with the female, they are identical in gestating everything on earth and procreating function. Then the relation was built between water and female, posing The Brink Female image which has abundant culture meanings. Some ancient literatures embody this kind of images, such as Xihe and ChangXi in The Shanhai Jing, the sibyl handing out sacrifice in The ZhouLi, the female in love poems of ShiJing, the goddess in ChuCi and so on.To explain culture meaning of the Brink Female, according to a mass of ancient literature and folk—custom information, the paper to survey its views from religion, folk—custom and culture angles. And it tries to provide a whole profound cognition, basing on its cultural origin and the connection with other images.The paper is divided into five segments. The first two segments discuss the relationship between water and women and analyze the Brink Female 's culture origin. Segment 3 stresses on Shangsi Feast and Qixi Feast and the relation between them and the Brink Female. Shangsi Feast reflects that ancestor's united worship to water and goddess. QiXi Feast, forming on the base of NiuNv myth, reflects agriculture civilization in ancient time. Segment 4 analyzes social rootstock that female select flowers or as being accouterment.The degradation of female's social class decide their accouterment choice and the family pattern in ChunQiu — ZhanGuo times. Segment 5 discusses the individualization of literators' love knot to female and its reason.In a word, the article brings forward the Brink Female image and explains it from multi-views.
