Hegel occupies a very important position in Western phylosophy. He reached the summit of recent phylophy and ended it. He emphasized that absolute reasonabihty is the base and essence of all existence is the active reason, that all originates from absolute reasonabihty and back to it Finally he built the absolutely united and all-included reasoning system.But the idea to find the base of abyss in reasoning way and prove the rationality of existence began from Ancient Greece to Hegel who accomplished it to its perfect form. But, in china Lao zi simply experienced the unity of objective world and self by observance, and reached the state of the integration of Tao & abyss. Why there is such a great difference between their understand Is there any relation in the difference of Occidental and Oriental culture? These questioners are the points of this thesis. From the perspective of phenomenon study, the different understanding of Hegel & Lao zi have the.same enlightment: First "Abyss" of Nature exists in phenomenon, the observer and it, object are united. The compare of Hegel & Lao zi thought's should begin with their origins form the angle of the history of phylosophy they have both the succession of the ancient ideas, and their creations, and influenced their own cultures respectively. Throught the retrospection of Western phylosophy history, I found that it's not coincidence for him to put absolute rationality to the ultimate place. But Lao zi as the source of Chinese culture, its intuition theory exerted great influence on the following philosopher. Through the contrast of the nature & characters of the rationality and intuition, I try to explain the difference between oriental and Oriental culture, originate from their different way of thinking.
