Purcell Opera Dido And Aeneas "musical Style

Henry Purcel(l1659-1695) is the greatest composer in British barpque. And he is a excellent organ player and singer, too. His works have the extensive forms and numerous quantity, especially the dramatic type is the most outstanding. In all drama music works, Dido and Aeneas is his unique and real opera. Up to now it is still often played. But according to domestic and international research on Dido and Aeneas, special topic study about it is very short. Therefore it's selected for the research object of the academic degree thesis. By using related methods such as the music analytics, drama theory, music historiography etc., this paper compared Dido and Aeneas with Italian and French opera in the corresponding period. And from the tragic emotion of Dido's aria, dramatic function of madrigal and chorus, representation meaning of instrumental music and dealing with basso ostinato, the paper analyzed that Purcell's operas had the factor of Italian and French opera. In the meantime, on the basis of understanding early period tradition of British music, the opera, Dido and Aeneas, was studied from the modulation layout, the harmonious whole structure and declamation style in the opera music, etc. The paper went deep into anatomy of British factor in Dido and Aeneas and objectively discussed the style characteristics of its opera music. In addition, this paper did a necessary and detail studying on main life experience of Purcell, music creation, creation background of Dido and Aeneas and scenario, then made a synthetic entire appraisement for Purcell and his famous opera, Dido and Aeneas.
