The Five-elements theory, which makes a profound and extensive impact on all aspects of Chinese culture, is a important part of Chinese traditional thoughts. As scholars all know, East Jin Dynasty and the South Dynasty were the times when the metaphysics and Buddhism were current. It makes people neglect the importance of Confucianism at that time. This paper tries to prove that the main aspect of the dominators' ideology at that time was not the metaphysics or Buddhism but Confucianism by proving the great impact of the Five-elements theory on many aspacts in the East Jin Dynasty and the South Dynasty and the leading position of Confucianism in the Five-elements theory.
