With Negative Mark Associated Adverb

This thesis discusses the unmarked construe concerned with modality adverbs and negatives.There are six parts in the thesis besides the foreword. The thesis describes the syntagmatic relation between the modality adverbs and various negatives;moreover,the thesis analyzes the semantic and pragmatic causes which lead to form such modality adverbs.Part one ascertains the subject of the thesis by establishing the syntactic slot: [ ]+negative particle+VP/ AP or [ ]+ (adj/v/adv) + negative particle + VP/ AP. The modality adverbs that correlate the n(?)gatives can get into the slot invariably or frequently. On the basis of the formal classification,part one divides three classes according to semantic and pragmatic standards.The three classes are quantitative class,duan (断) class and presupposition class.Part two and part three discuss the syntagmatic relation and modal selection between the three classes and the negatives. Part two discusses the modality adverbs that relate to truth-conditional negation. These modality adverbs include quantitative class and duan (断) class. The function of these modality adverbs is to emphasis negatives.In part two, the thesis emphasis on the modal selection between modality adverbs and negatives by describing the syntagmatic relation between the negative series of "bu"(不) and "mei" (没) and modality adverbs. Part three discuss the modality adverbs that relate to felicity conditional-negation.These modality adverbs belong to presupposition class. The function of them is not only to emphasis negatives ,but also to cohere a text, make it to be a unity.Part four discusses the diachronic evolution of modality adverbs that correlatenegatives. The thesis describes the process in which qianwan (千万) and wanwan(万万) as modality adverbs that correlate the affirmatives evolve into as modalityadverbs that correlate the negatives, what is more,the thesis analyzes the cause ofevolution.Grounding on the four parts above,the thesis explores why there is unmarked construe concerned with modality adverbs and negatives.There are two factors.One cause is that the syntagmatic relation depends on the semantic selection sihao (丝 毫) and hao (毫) of the thesis possess semantic feature of [+little].This semantic feature has relations with [+less than] of negation.This is why sihao (丝毫) and hao (毫) invariably appear in front of negatives.Another is pragmatic cause.The...
