To Kill a Mocking Bird, an only novel in Harper Lee's life. In this novel, the author focuses on the crime of condemning racial discrimination of morals aspect, have probed into the good and evil of the human nature. The deep theme of the works is not only about calling this world's general morals, but also expecting the awakening of the southern society and purifying again.After World War II, U.S.A.'s economy is developed fast continuously, meanwhile, various kinds of social concerns and social contradictions are sharpened day by day. In these social concerns, black question and southern problem are still very outstanding , fierce contradiction and conflict become the prelude that the civil rights moved with the historical explodition of southern question of the sixties. At the same time, southern literature of U.S.A. has changed a series of in the thirties, just in this transition moment, based on To Kill a Mocking Bird which both carries on the southern literature past tradition and open the way of southern literature, by taking the concern and thinking about the black question and southern problem, Harper Lee become southern representative figure.At the beginning of what the Civil War finishes, the works which written by the southern writers of U.S.A. often deviate from reality, depict the southern plantation as black person and white man's paradise; When 20th century reached, the writers begin to examine the southern society closely with calm sight, describe the true social current situation with the sharp brush stroke.
