Tension And Intimacy: The Environmental History And Historical Geography

The discipline attribute of historical geography and the complicated relation between it and history has led to the close and tense contradiction relation between it and environmental history which propped up as the historical branch. On one hand, these two both are devoted to environmental research. To all appearances, there is not great difference except the academic label, they are intimate partners in the field of environmental research; On the other hand, historical geography considers that the new developing environmental history invades and seizes its old domain. In the development of the environmental history, the environmental research of historical geography challenges the legitimacy of environmental history's existing. It is sure to acknowledge that historical geography has certainly made remarkable contributions to environmental research, and it will not withdraw from this field in the future, but historical geography can not replace the environmental history, the environmental history has its own uniqueness and advantage as a new developing discipline, the development of environmental history is an irresistible trend.
