The 17th century is the golden age of the Netherlands, whose solid national strength promoted the rapid prosperity of the Dutch Minor Schools. The Dutch genre, which bore strong national features, kept a close relationship with the secular life of the Dutch. As an artistic form of the Public, a special epoch, the genre paintings authentically revealed the current features of the general public lives and become extremely significant historical materials. Analyzing the Dutch genres can help to acquire much information about the economic situation, living conditions, thoughts and ideas and so on. This thesis, with methods of demonstrating pictures and history mutually, will focus on study of the Dutch genres to get a general idea of the Dutch social conditions and the general public living conditions in the 17th century and to find out the historical value of the Dutch genres.
