Throughout history the lied of German and Austria plays animportant role in the development history of the European art songs. Havingexperienced several hundred years of the historical severe test, precipitation and greateffort of several generations of composers, the lied is regarded as "classics" now.They are popular all over the world. By the view of the development of lied stylesand the composing of the two country's composers, This passage reveals the evolvingprocess of the lied in order to describe the trace of their development. It is made up ofthree chapters: The first chapter is about the origin and birth of the lied, which isdivided into two sections: The first section discusses that the origin of the lied camefrom the early German lyrical songs to the Generalbass lied, the second sectiondiscusses that Berlin school's contribution leads to the birth of the lied. The secondchapter is about the formation and boom of the lied. First of all, it analyzes the factorsof the formation and boom of the lied, and then discusses the efforts of the Classicaland Romantic composers which gave the lied unprecedented boom. The last chapterpoints out that the development of the lied lowered to a certain extent, marching withslow paces, and discusses the composing of the Late—Romantic and Expressionistcomposers in the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20 century.
