The dynasties of the Tudor and the Stuart were the transitional period for Britain, from the middle ages to modern times. In this period, with the economic development and political reform, British society experienced great and fast change. As a result, plenty of poor people became to form the urgent problem. And also, their education became one of the social focuses. For this, this thesis is to analyze the condition of the British poor people's education in the early modern times in four aspects as following.In the first chapter, in order to do the research on the education of the poor people, it's to clarify the definitions of poverty, the poor people and to introduce the conditions of the poor people in the British society in the early modern times at first. And then, this chapter will continue to tell the poor people's number, their structure, their living conditions, and their poverty reasons.In the second chapter, it will introduce the education of British poor people in the early modem times. The whole society had a heated discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of the poor education. Gradually, profitable idea for poor education was formed in the discussion. The poor people also show their thirsty for education .Because of the limited conditions, the poor education was launched under the help of from outside society, included the church and the guild. Most of the educational places, containing some organization and schools, are sponsored by charities. For example, charitable institution, charity school, workhouse and the Sunday school.In the third chapter, it will take the Kent to make a typical case research. And then, it will do the comparative research between the poor education in Kent and Yeomen education.In the fourth chapter, it comes to achievement of the poor education and to the reason why British poor education developed so fast in the early modern times. According to the literacy rate, we know that the poor education had achieved a lot, but we'd better not overestimate it. It profits from the charity, especially the educational charity. Additionally, this will analyze the motivation and reasons of the charity program in the end.
